Periodontal Disease - silent and deadly

Periodontal disease can go on for years without detection .This infection slowly progresses over the life time destroying the bony support of the teeth. Because of the lack of any discomfort, many adults are unaware that they have infection. The damage caused is irreversible. Some signs of periodontal diseases are: bleeding gums, redness of gum tissue, swelling of gums around the teeth, breath odor, receding gums, mobility of teeth.

What are the symptoms of TMJ disorder?
  • Jaw pain or soreness, more noticeable in the morning or afternoon

  • Jaw pain while chewing, biting, or yawning

  • Earache without an infection, sometimes spreading into the face

  • Soreness in front of the ear

  • A clicking or grinding noise while opening and closing your mouth

  • Difficulty opening and closing your mouth

  • A stiff jaw when eating, talking, yawning

  • Sensitive teeth without any signs of dental problems

  • Grinding of your teeth

  • Aching on the side of the head and neck

Depending on the diagnosis, treatments may include orthodontics, reshaping teeth, bite guards.

Accidental tooth loss

If the tooth is loose even extremely so, leave it in the place. If it is out of its socket completely but still in the mouth, it is best to attempt re-implantation If it is out of the mouth, do not let it dry out. Rinse it off in milk or lukewarm water .Preserve it in milk. Call dental office. Time out of the socket is critical in the long -term success of re-implantation. After 30 minutes, the success potential begins to decline.

Tooth whitening

Tooth bleaching involves the placement of the bleaching solution on the teeth to eliminate stains and discoloration. Sensitive teeth, or those that are chipped, eroded or weakened by cavities, should be repaired or protected before they are bleached. Bleaching is safe and effective .The American Dental Association's seal of approval has been given to wide range of tooth whitening products.

Immediate dentures are placed immediately after the removal of the remaining teeth. Over-denture fits over small number of remaining natural teeth or implants.
